ROYAL ASHDOWN ladies’ Jacs Marlio and Katherine Russell (see above) did not so much win the Sussex County scratch foursomes held at Cowdray Park as blow the opposition away. In the semi-final against Rye the Ashdown girls powered their way to a 4&3 victory only to go one better in the afternoon with a 5&4 triumph against West Sussex in what was a repeat of the 2011 and 2012 finals.
And whilst Marlio and Russell were admiring their silverware, young Ollie Smith’s (see below) name was at the top of the leader board in the Sussex County under-14 division scratch competition at Mid Sussex Golf Club with a gross 76 against a par 71 to take the trophy by two shots.
And in what was a glittering month for trophies for Ashdown golfers Sussex County Ladies’ Captain, Sue Todd and daughter Hayley, were triumphant in the 27-hole Mother and Daughters Open held at Royal Mid Surrey since 1962 and which sees pairs entering from all around Britain. The Todds won the 27-hole handicap prize and finished runners-up in the scratch contest.
Many congratulations to all our April winners. Well done and very well played!
