A FAMOUS VICTORY was secured at the invitational event held at St George’s Hill Golf Club in November. The St George’s Cup for Club Secretaries and either Course Managers or Clubhouse Managers, a contest that has been running for some 50 years, was won by Royal Ashdown’s very own dynamic duo of David Holmes and Matt Palmer.
Fending off stiff opposition from over 20 other clubs that included Sunningdale, The Berkshire and New Zealand, Holmes and Palmer scored a mightily impressive 42 Stableford points in the fourball better ball contest pushing the team from Ashridge GC into second place.
‘David and I ham and egged it really well all the way round,’ said Matt Palmer at the prize giving. ‘But given the number of ham and eggs that I have served over the years that isn’t any surprise!’
