Jean Brown (pictured above left) first started preparing lunches and teas for the Cantelupe golfers in 1981 and was joined by Margaret Goold in 1997. They served their final meal, signing off with a sumptuous roast dinner, after the match between the Past Presidents and the Cantelupe in November.
Anyone who has ever enjoyed a meal cooked by the ladies in their tiny kitchen at the rear of the Cantelupe clubhouse will always comment not only on the quality of the food but also the quantity of it!
Margaret is the wife of Ray Goold, a former Cantelupe Captain and Secretary, who is both an honorary life member of the club and also Chairman whilst Jean’s son, Ian, and grandson, Robert, are both Cantelupe members.
At the dinner after the match Past President, Paul Champness, and Cantelupe Secretary, Garry Pratt, both thanked the ladies for their sterling efforts over the years and wished them a long and happy retirement away from the kitchen. The fact that the Cantelupe romped home to a 6-0 victory over the Past Presidents conclusively shows that the ladies substantial meals have helped fortify some very talented golfers.
