Golf whatever the weather

CAST YOUR MIND back to the start of this year. Day after day of ghastly weather with torrential rains flooding courses and preventing play even for those hardy souls who were prepared to pull on their wet weather gear. Now the pro shop has the most cutting edge golfing technology to banish those wet weather blues.

The Royal Ashdown Forest performance centre opens this month in the Greenwood Room in the pro shop offering everything from swing analysis, to gauging exactly the right sort of clubs and ball you should be playing to providing complete virtual rounds on some of the world’s finest golf courses including Carnoustie, Hazeltine National and Royal Birkdale.

The system is the only complete performance centre of its type available in East Sussex. It comprises a stereoscopic camera which simulates human vision and captures three dimensional images and, weighing under four pounds, is small enough to be carried easily for use both indoors and out. In terms of golf it enables teaching professionals to analyse swings at the most critical moment- club impact on the ball- and deliver the most accurate assessment possible.

During a lesson golfers will now be able to view every detail of their shots. With ball speed, launch angle, push or pull data, side spin, total spin and carry distance, the simulator delivers every piece of information needed to identify what it is your golf ball is doing through the air.

And as well as an invaluable teaching aid the new performance centre also allows you to enjoy a round of golf even if there is six inches of snow out on the course. With 14 classic golf courses from around the world, you can take part in your own Ryder Cup round at Celtic Manor, Hazeltine National or relive the miracle at Medinah. Other courses include Open Championship venues such as Carnoustie, Turnberry, Royal Troon and Royal Birkdale alongside many other legendary tracks.

Prices range from £20 for a practice session to £170 for a four hour round of golf for up to four players. For more information, to book your first session or to buy a voucher for a cracking Christmas gift simply speak to Tim or Sam in the pro shop.

  1. Some time in the future, it would be wonderful to have RAFGC Old Course as one of the “legendary tracks” – it would be super to play a course that we really know…………
