Three (almost) cheers Ashdown duo

PLAYING IN the London amateur foursomes competition when the year ends in a three has always brought smiles and some success to the Ashdown duo of Andrew Smith and Richard Darlington (seen above).

They reached the final in 1993 and won a decade later, so the smart money was moving their way in this year’s tournament held at The Berkshire Golf Club. And history so nearly repeated itself with the pair going down 3&2 in the semi final to eventual winners, Stoke Park, who beat Walton Heath in the final.

On their way to the semis Smith and Darlington beat Mill Ride, Dunstable Downs, Ashford Manor and Dartford. The duo are coy about making any predictions regarding 2023.
