Ashdown’s marathon men

Screen Shot 2016-06-16 at 10.38.00MILLY SIMMIE WAS diagnosed with an extremely rare form of cancer the day before her wedding to Ashdown member Alastair. At the moment there is no known cure for this disease of the blood vessels, known as EHE (Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma).

Since her diagnosis Milly has become an expert on EHE and there is some good news from America where two scientists are leading the research into this one in a million illness and have identified a treatment that is successful on similar types of cancers. To run trials on the type of cancer Millie has they require $25,000.

Alastair Simmie has already completed a ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats (for more click here) to raise funds and awareness for the EHE rare cancer charity and also because he wants Millie to be his wife forever. To find out more and to make a contribution, however small, just follow this link.

And whilst Alastair and Millie continue their brave fight, closer to home four more golfers from Ashdown are doing their own bit for charity by playing four rounds of the Old Course on July 4th.

Clubhouse manager Matt Palmer, chef Tom Waller, assistant secretary Adam Riddle and head pro, Tim Cowley with be teeing off at dawn in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Tim’s donation page can be found by clicking here.

To our four gallant golfers but especially to Alastair and Milly we wish you every success.
