Ashdown ladies triumph as men come second

M4's winners RAF 2013Royal Ashdown Forest has won the Morrice Foursomes competition held by Sussex County Ladies Golf Association. The knock out tournament started last April with 50 teams battling for the trophy.

In vile conditions at East Brighton Golf Club the Ashdown team of Jan Hobden, Jane Bowers, Katherine Russell, Rosie Hockey, Julia Thompson and Sue Wheeler beat Copthorne two to one in the final. Ham Manor defeated the other losing semi-finalist, Brighton & Hove, to take third place.

In the County’s annual Autumn Bowmaker competition, a three-ball, Stableford contest held at Willingdon GC, Jacs Marlio, Sue Wheeler and Julia Thompson took the honours with a winning score of 84 points. With the two best scores to count on each hole their next closest rivals finished seven points back on 77.

The Ashdown Ladies’ male colleagues were less successful at Seaford, losing in the semi finals of the plate competition of the Cyril Blake Sussex County Seniors’ inter club foursomes against the Dyke Golf Club. The men’s team was Gerald Cowan, Jack Furtado, Brian Griffiths, John Harley, Tony Monteuuis, Paul Powell-Jackson, Ted Rose and David Scrivens.
